Serra da Estrela Tour
During this day tour you’ll discover the fantastic mountain scenery of the Serra da Estrela, its gastronomy and its handicrafts.
You’ll visit Seia and the famous Bread Museum, the Tower of Serra da Estrela, Manteigas and Covilhã, where you will also have the chance to visit the Cheese Museum.
What To Expect
Departure from Lisbon towards Seia. A typical village and gateway to the highest Portuguese chain of mountains, Serra da Estrela. Here we will visit the Bread Museum, where you will discover everything about Portuguese bread. This space includes a restaurant, an old grocery store, the library bar and the bread art studio.
Then we start the climb towards the Serra da Estrela Natural Park. A very famous place for the frequent snowfalls during the winter months… Here you will have the opportunity to climb to the highest point of mainland Portugal, the Torre da Serra da Estrela.
On the way to the Serra da Estrela Tower, we find a sculpture, in the rock, dated 1946 and dedicated to Our lady of Boa Estrela, the patron saint of the shepherds.
We will then start the descent towards Manteigas. A village located about 700m above sea level, in the glacier valley of Serra da Estrela, through which the Zêzere river flows. A place of unique natural beauty.
We will continue the descent towards Covilhã. A wonderful city in the interior of Portugal. It is another gateway to the chain of mountains. Its history, monuments, museums and modern energy make this city a must! On the way, we will visit the Cheese Museum, a unique place where you can get to know the entire artisanal manufacturing process of the famous Serra cheese delicacy, appreciated and recognized internationally. Here you will have the opportunity of tasting 3 types of cheese and regional wine.
